Product Photos You Can Feel
Product Photography for Sydney Ceramic Artist
I recently had the pleasure of doing this product photography shoot for Sydney ceramic artist ‘Ceramics by Valerie’. Her work is so textured and beautiful that I wanted to make sure to make sure that the images celebrated her handcrafted pieces and the ‘feel’ of them translated through the images. The product photos on your website need to be the online virtual substitute of picking up a piece in a store to feel it with your hands before wanting to purchase it.
With Product photography, there is the availability and temptation these days to snap some quick pics on our phones and move along. But if you’re a creative like Valerie or myself, it’s a shame to think that all the effort, love and care you’ve poured into the product you make may not translate and tell that story to your audience. As so much shopping is done online these days, and even when people shop in person they have often looked around online to see where has the taste and feel they are looking for, it’s so important that the images you use to promote your product are of high quality.
As you can see, Valerie’s pieces are beautifully textured and the quality of professional product photos means you can see and feel this texture through these images. We are able to highlight all the key elements of your product and capture close-ups of details, wide angles, photos with space for text and more.
For this product photography session, I kept the other objects in the shots minimal to fully celebrate the beautiful handcrafted pieces of working art. A few small and relevant touches here and there, such as cutlery, to show the pieces in action so to speak without subtracting anything from their complete selves. This is something we will discuss in your planning consultation before the photoshoot itself. Do you need images for your website, Etsy store or Amazon store? Do you need lifestyle product photos for your socials or marketing purposes? Most likely, you’ll need some of each and this will all be covered and planned for ahead of time to make sure our photoshoot runs smoothly and purposefully.
Commonly with creative and product based businesses, the person behind it all is often reluctant to get in the photos, often saying the product is the star. And whilst true to an extent, people love to see face (or hands) the product. It’s a great opportunity to get a few photos of you interacting with your product, both for your own branding purposes and because most people, like me, love a peak behind the curtain at who is the mastermind behind the art or craft they so admire. I have a blog on this topic that is worth a read if you’re a product-based business. Read it here! Although the product is the main character in your brand story, you’re also an integral part and without you, it may feel like something is missing for your audience!
As well as this product photoshoot for Valerie, I also had the pleasure of being involved in the redesign of her business cards. Her new cards not only feature a photo from our product photoshoot, but I chose a textured card to further give customers the look and feel of her beautiful work. From the first touch of her business card, they get to experience the feeling and texture of her art, which is cohesive with her brand. When looking at your marketing overall, all elements across the board should sing to the same tune. This highly elevates your brand in the eyes of your audience and makes it clear to them who your brand is and what you do best.
I love creating product photos for Sydney creatives, but I do much more than that, so please check out my other graphic design services and get in touch if you’re looking to launch, pivot or elevate your brand.
