Grow Your Business with these Visibility Tips

A lot of women I speak to tend to tend to lay low when it comes to promoting their business - particularly in the early days when the business is new and they are still finding their feet. They don’t want to come off as being pushy or arrogant so instead they keep quiet and will only talk about their business when someone asks them about it. And I can definitely relate, because I often do this too!

But here’s the thing I’m learning. Yes, the marketplace may be noisy and crowded, but I have every right to be there too. And based on my previous happy clients who tell me how much I’ve helped their business, I’m sure there are other people out there who are looking for my services but they just can’t find me. So I need to get more visible so those looking for me can find me. And so do you!!

But if standing on a street corner twirling a flashing sign makes you cringe as much as it does me, I’ve got some great news for you! You can totally increase your visibility in lots of small easy steps - many of which you can do yourself - and when done consistently, your efforts will compound over time so that the right people find you at the right time.

The more people can see you (visibility), the more people have the opportunity to buy from you (more sales).

As you increase your brand’s visibility, not only will your sales grow from people having found your message, but you’ll cultivate customer loyalty for having an accessible, engaging message. Your reputation as a trusted expert in your field will grow as well as your own confidence in yourself and your brand.

Tips to increase your brand’s visibility

1. Post a Photo of Yourself on Social Media

As much as I don’t like it, each time I get brave and post a photo of myself on social media, I get the best engagement - every time! Not because I’m anything special, but the people following me - friends, clients and colleagues - genuinely like to see me. It’s like virtually bumping into a friend in the supermarket and you’re glad to see them.

More people than usual react to the post and they also leave lovely comments. Not only is it reassuring to me after I’ve just done something scary, but my engagement goes up and the post is shown to more people.

So even though it’s scary, make a point of posting a photo of yourself regularly. Not only will your visibility increase, but people will get to know you and trust you.

2. Get Blogging

Informative blogs on your expert topic will not only set you apart as a leader in your field, but will build trust with your audience. Search engines will favour websites that have relevant content that users find helpful, so businesses with a blog strategy will appear higher in online searches.

Plus, blog content is evergreen - which means it has value until the day you remove it. I often have people finding me through blog posts I’ve written 5 or more years ago. That’s so much better than social media posts that last a day or two if you’re lucky.

3. Utilise the Power of Pinterest

Pinterest is often thought of as a social media platform, but it’s so much more than that. It’s a super powerful search engine with over 500 million users and counting!

By creating ‘pins’ that link back to your website, you are catching the attention of more viewers and potential clients. And just recently, Pinterest has just introduced the ability to automatically create a pin when you create an Instagram post.

What a great opportunity to use the content you already have and get even more visible!

4. Use Fonts that are Easy to Read

Did you know that about 20% of the population have impaired or low vision? This includes varying levels of vision, colour blindness, glaucoma, dyslexia and more. That’s a lot of people who will skip over your content completely if it’s too hard to read.

Being trendy is one thing, but being functional and accessible is just good business. Not only will more people feel welcomed and included in your brand story, but you’ll gain some more customers along the way. Increasing the ease with which people can read your message and call to action, will increase your visibility.

5. Customise your Canva Graphics

With over 170 million people using Canva, chances are pretty high that hundreds, if not thousands of people are using the same template you are. I often scroll past a post thinking I’ve already seen it before, but it’s actually a post by someone else using the same template.

If you look the same as everyone else on social media, you’re going to blend in. But if you can stand out with graphics that are different and custom, then you’ll catch the attention of more people. So be sure to customise your Canva graphics to be consistent with your brand before posting to social media.

6. Rename your Brand Photos Before Publishing

Most times when you take a photo on your phone, or have your photographer send you your new brand photos, they will likely have been named something like “DCS_4875.jpg” or “JanelleKeys_56.jpg”. When you upload your photos to your website, or even to social media, the filename is readable by search engines. To help give your online presence more visibility, and to help you appear before people who are actually searching for your services, rename your photos before you publish them. You are building an amazing brand! What you have to offer will benefit so many people out there – but first they need to find you and meet you! Increasing your visibility is a key step in growing your brand and ultimately, your sales and profit.
