Tell us about yourself
In 2020, I left the corporate world following the surprise arrival of our fourth child. My professional journey has encompassed administrative and customer service roles across various dynamic industries, catering to individuals ranging from management to tradespeople, warehousing staff, and truck drivers. Over my extensive 15+ years in the workforce, I've navigated fast-paced and demanding environments. Returning to a 9-5 hustle was not something we wanted to pursue as a family so I looked for other opportunities to work around our family. My goal was to utilise my skills to support small business and after a little research Receptive Konnection came to life with a newborn in tow!
Tell us about your business
I absolutely love supporting business women in rural, regional and remote communities! Receptive Konnection supports women with Admin and Customer Service so they can scale and grow & focus on what's important - the freedom to soulfully serve! Living rural is incredible. It also has its own set of unique challenges, especially when you’re located in an isolated area with limited resources. Rural women make decisions from the heart and want to make genuine change and I know they want to keep it local and invest back into our rural economy.
What's the heart behind your business?
Family! Always Family! Truth is, if we don’t support local and help support rural, the communities and rural business women and communities will suffer. For the majority, we are not upgrading our 3rd yacht or adding another investment property to our portfolio (I mean, kudos to you if you do!). We are here, trying to make an honest living around our family commitments and passionate about making a difference. This sometimes means we are extended to the tip of our limits, especially with limited resources and can lead to all sorts of imbalance.
What does a typical, or ideal, work day look like for you?
This depends on the day and projects I may be working on. A few hours in the morning I look after customer service enquiries and any other tasks handed to me. I resume again in the afternoon to capture the queries or feedback to close out returns or any assistance customers require. I have the ultimate flexibility that works for my clients and my family!
Have there been any struggles in your business that you've overcome? What did you learn from them?
Of course! I feel like the first 2 years was a big learning curve for sure. Holding boundaries and knowing my worth is the biggest take away for me. Learning and accepting I am not for everyone and that's absolutely OK!
What's been a highlight for you in business?
A huge highlight for me is when the woman I am supporting reaches out and says how I've reduced their stress levels and they no longer feel overwhelmed. I feel a range of emotions when this happens! I'm so elated for them, I'm proud they took the step to reach out for help and proud of myself for making that difference in their life. I was delighted to also be a finalist in the very first ALIBI awards in 2022.
What advice would you give others wanting to start a business?
Go for it! Think about and follow your passions and network. Research your industry, ‘How can you stand out?’ Leaving a 9-5 sometimes feels like a 24/7 because all the big wonderful ideas flow through your mind but remember to take a break. Have another income stream. Dream big and chip away at it each day. Be open to being a lifelong learner.
