How to Create Unique Brand Photos

Brand photos for Sydney interior designers

Brand photos are your opportunity to convey a visual story to your audience. But there’s no point telling a story if there’s nothing unique to say. Generic photos are a dime a dozen, they fill a space but they don’t really say anything. One of the benefits of professional branding photos is that they talk to your audience, show who you are and are a key ingredient of telling your story so people can connect with your brand. People want to know what sets you apart and if your photos don’t do that, they may be letting you down. Keep scrolling to read my important tips for how to get the most out of a professional brand photoshoot and show uniqueness in your brand photos.

Communicate your values and goals to your brand photographer

Before a brand shoot with me, we will have a planning session, so we’re both clear on the direction and desired outcome of the shoot. We’ll discuss any specific images you many need for your website or upcoming campaigns, what outfits will best highlight your style, and the best props that help tell your brand story. Before my time with Sydney Interior Designer Amy from Studio Amelia, she provided great, clear information about her ‘why’ behind the shoot - what she was envisioning, who she is and what her brand does. This helps me as the photographer to design the photoshoot to tell her story and show her unique voice. This is an extremely strong and intentional step that takes a bit of thought, but elevates your brand photos from just standard headshots to a targeted and effective branch of your marketing.

Find your Unique Selling Point (USP)

As businesses, it’s our job to let our audience know who we are, what we do and why they need us. In order to help people move from observers to customers, we need to make sure we have a clearly understandable message that conveys how our product or service solves a specific problem. Each brand should have a unique voice, something that sets them apart and differentiates them from all the others. This is your USP. Perhaps this is how you treat a customer, extras you include that others don’t, an aftercare service that goes above and beyond, or a community that you invite customers into. Finding your USP and making sure it’s clear to your audience in all messaging, including your brand photos, will show uniqueness and draw out clients that share your values.

Highlight your uniqueness in your photoshoot

Intentional choices make the difference between images that are generic and images showcase your uniqueness. This can be done by intentionally planning every aspect of your photoshoot. Amy picked a location that suited her vibe, with pops of colour and an urban chic. Outfits are an easy way to introduce more about yourself, and show your uniqueness. Got a statement piece? A favourite colour? It’s important to both represent yourself, but also not divert too far from your regular style so that when people meet you they feel like they already know you. By doing so, you almost endear yourself to your audience and you begin to build trust and to be known for something. Props are another great opportunity to insert yourself into a brand photoshoot. If you have any unique tools, or a beloved hobby or interest, bring these touches to further personalise your brand photos.
