Tell us about yourself

I grew up in the 'burbs in Sydney and moved to the Blue Mountains 20 years ago - and I love it! Being surrounded by the bush and the wildlife (not so much the snakes :) ) is such a gift and is so integral to my wellbeing.

Tell us about your business

I wear a few hats, but at the core of everything that I do is supporting women in their health and wellbeing. My background is that I am a registered nurse, nutritionist, naturopath and I have a Masters of Medicine in Reproductive Health and have just finished a PhD in Public Health. I have an online clinic specialising in women's health, in particular midlife health. My approach is "women's health beyond bikini health", meaning it's not just the uterus and breasts that matter, especially in perimenopause and menopause when our heart health, mental health, thyroid, gut and bones all need our focus.

What's the heart behind your business?

Women's health - whether it is about gynaecological conditions such as endometriosis, or other, such as cardiac disease - is under-researched, under-treated, and under-supported. I want to empower women by helping them understand their bodies and healthcare options. I have a new course called The Rest intensive, perfect for a woman in midlife who is feeling fatigued, brain fog, anxious and sleeping poorly. I also provide clinical consultations online.

What does a typical, or ideal, work day look like for you?

I don't have a typical day because I am doing a bit of research, writing course material, running private group coaching and seeing clients! Luckily I like variety!

Have there been any struggles in your business that you've overcome? What did you learn from them?

Lots. Whilst I like variety it can be tricky to juggle sometimes. And moving online early in the pandemic was a complete shift, I had to set up new systems, sell my dispensary and of course not everyone wants online consultations.

What's been a highlight for you in business?

Helping people. Sometimes you know at the time the impact you've had, how their health has improved and they have a better quality of life, but sometimes you only hear about years later; it doesn't matter when, it is still profoundly satisfying.

What advice would you give others wanting to start a business?

Absolutely get support, join a business group or peer network. Know that in the beginning it will be a bit messy as you learn the ropes, and you'll probably work more hours than you planned, but it is worth it in the long run.
